The Foundation Stage
The
Foundation Stage is a hive of activity for our fives and under. Call in
any time and you are likely to find yourself in the land of the
dinosaurs or mini-beasts or up to your elbows in paint, glue, sand or
worse! If we are playing outside, beware of barrels, bikes and balls!
At BISC we believe that well-planned, purposeful play
and appropriate intervention by practitioners will engage children in
the learning process and help them make excellent progress. We realise
that in the Foundation Stage children are forming
attitudes towards education which will
underpin all future learning, so above all we feel that
their time in the Foundation Stage should be fun!
At BISC we follow the UK’s EYFS – Early Years Foundation
Stage curriculum. The early years are critical in a child's development
and children develop rapidly during this time - physically,
intellectually, emotionally, socially and aesthetically. The Foundation
Stage is about developing key learning skills such as listening,
speaking, concentration, persistence and learning to work
co-operatively. Activities are planned for Foundation Stage children
under the following areas of the curriculum as identified in the EYFS

Play is the vehicle by which young
children gain access to this curriculum.
It is the child's way of learning and it
cannot be emphasised too much.
Children are given time to
explore, re-discover and build on past experiences. There are
opportunities for children to engage in activities planned by adults and
also those that they plan or initiate themselves.
Early childhood experiences form the
foundation on which children build the rest of their lives. It creates a
base for lifelong learning. All children deserve the best start
possible and that's what they get at BISC! |
